15 May 2016. Social ride – Altona to Ascot Vale.

 

Meet at Altona Pier @ 10.00 am from where we follow the Hobsons Bay Trail until we turn up Maddox Rd and ride to Newport along Market St. From Newport we ride along Hall St, down Craig St to Spotswood and onto the Bay Trail again. We follow the Maribyrnong River trail through Yarraville, Footscray, and Maidstone. At Pipemakers Park we cross over the Maribyrnong River and ride the back streets to Union Road, Ascot Vale, where we stop at a café for lunch. Our return trip back to Altona will be approximately 42 km.

20 May 2016. BayWest BUG dinner – Stellas.

The next social event for 2016 will be held on Friday 20th May at 7pm at Stella’s,  http://www.stellapizza.com.au/. It is BYO wine and also licensed and not just pizza. Booking for 14 has been made but final numbers are required no later than Tuesday 17th May. Book via Facebook, SMS or email. Please also bring sufficient cash/change to pay for your meal as there are no split bills or cash/card combos. Prices are very reasonable and portion sizes are generous.

29 May 2016. Social ride – Heidelberg to Eltham.

Today we catch the 9.42am train from Altona for Parliament station to connect with the 10.27am train to Heidelberg. We the ride down Yarra Street to the Main Yarra Trail, or for those who need immediate coffee we can divert to one of the coffee shops on nearby Burgundy Street. From Heidelberg we cycle along the Yarra Trail, through the City of Banyule, following the river past wetlands and a picturesque view of Finns Reserve to Westerfolds Park. We follow the trail near the river through Westerfolds, crossing a newish bridge before heading to Eltham. There are two or three lunch spots in Eltham, or just north, to choose from, or alternatively for a longer ride, we can continue on the track to Diamond Creek, lunching there or returning to Eltham. Return home by train from Eltham or cycle back to Heidelberg. Distance from Heidelberg to Eltham is 15km (30km return). Extension to Diamond Creek is a further 12km return. The trail includes some modest hills. Some of the trail is not sealed; suitable tyres are a requirement.
