Sunday 16 January 2011
Our first ride for 2011 will be an easy flat ride for all those who have been eating too much and have not been on their bike for a while. We will meet at the Altona pier to leave at 9.15 am. A train leaves Werribee at 8.46 am and Laverton at 8.54 am to arrive in time for the start. We will follow the path west along the BayWest Trail to the new bridge over Skelton Creek and cross over. Once over the bridge we will follow the road through Sanctuary Lakes to the café on the lake for coffee and a bite to eat. Once re-fuelled, we will return via the “old” bridge crossing Skelton Creek near Lan Avenue, Altona Meadows to get back on the shared trail to Altona. This will be a reasonably short but pleasant ride at approximately 25 kms.

“Pedals on the Path” is a youth training program to bring together youth in Hobsons Bay, to promote a healthy lifestyle and raise money to assist youth in the western suburbs, http://www.westernchances.org.au/ .
This is a yearly event and we will join this event as our planned ride to act as ride leaders and marshals if they have enough leaders. You can find out more about “Pedals on the Path” at http://pedalsonthepath.com .
It would great to get all members along on the day. A BBQ and registration is at 12.00 noon and at 1.15 pm the event starts with a 10 km & 22 km bike ride, 6 km walk and a 10 km run starting at Cresser reserve Altona Melway ref: map 55 A11. BBQ lunch and drinks can be purchased from 12.00 noon. If you are a marshal, it would probably be easier to ride to your marshalling point as all events follow the shared trail, both east and west of the start point.
If your family would like to participate in the ride, walk or run you can download an application form from the website.
Please let me know as soon as possible if you are able to assist and I will pass this on.
