Thursday 6 October.

Annual General Meeting.

Our next meeting is our Annual General Meeting starting at 7.00 @ the Laverton Community Centre; 52-70 Hall Street, Altona Meadows, [enter from Merton Street], portable building No.2 [closest to Hall Street]. Please come along and help select the committee for the next twelve months, all positions are open and it would be great to have some new members on the committee.

Light refreshments will be provided so come along and support your club and have a chat.

Sunday 9 October.

Yarra Trail ride – Flinders Street station to lunch.

Today we will start at Flinders Street Station, meet on the concourse for a 10.00am start. Catch the 8.46 am from Werribee, 8.56 am from Laverton or 9.02 from Altona to be there in time. From Flinders Street, we will follow the Yarra Trail for approximately 20 kms and find a café for lunch. Following lunch we will return to Flinders Street station for the return trip home.

Sunday 23 October.

Fundraising event for Cath’s entry in – “2012 JDRF RIDE FOR A CURE”.
Join Cath at Shadowfax Winery, http://www.shadowfax.com.au/home/w1/i2/, Werribee Park from 12 noon for her fundraising event for the “2012 JDRF RIDE FOR A CURE”, [Ride to Cure Diabetes]. Tickets to the event are $60.00 p/head for the two course meal, wine tasting and tour. (Meal wines are at your own expense).

Sunday 30 October.

Hoppers Crossing to Werribee Mansion and return.

Today we will meet at the Hoppers Crossing station at 10.00 am to ride to the Werribee Mansion, following the Federation Trail to where it ends at the Werribee River. We will cross under the freeway to follow the path to the Werribee Mansion for lunch at the café. We will reverse the ride back to Hoppers Crossing station for a train home. Catch the 9.38 am train from Altona or 9.44 from Laverton. This ride will be approximately 20 kms.

11 September.

Williamstown to Docklands and return.

We will meet at the information centre in Commonwealth Reserve and leave at 10.00am to ride along the trail through Newport, Yarraville and onto Footscray where we cross the Yarra River to ride onto Docklands where we will have morning tea or maybe some lunch. We return to Williamstown to conclude our ride.

9 September.

Our next BUG dinner will be held at the Golden Panda Chinese Restaurant, 35 Old Geelong Rd, Hoppers Crossing, opposite Hoppers Crossing station, starting at 7.00pm. This restaurant also has a BYO wine licence for those who wish to take a bottle of wine to share. Please reply by email baywestbug@gmail.com if you wish to join us.

25 September.

Flinders Street, Gardiners Creek Trail loop.

Today we will ride the Gardiners Creek trail, catch a train to Flinders Street station, 8.46 am from Werribee, 8.56 am from Laverton or 9.02 from Altona. We will follow the Yarra River to Ashburton passing the rowing sheds, Como Park and other Melbourne landmarks. Travelling back to Melbourne along the Yarra River will be approximately 40 kms. We will stop for a coffee and lunch along the way, Graeme will recommend one of his favourite cafes. From Melbourne, we will have the option to travel home by train or continue riding.

Meet at the Information Centre, Commonwealth Reserve, Nelson Place Williamstown to leave at 9.45 am in time to catch the first Westgate punt to cross the Yarra River. Once on the other side, we will follow the path along the bay to St Kilda where we will turn around and ride back to Port Melbourne for lunch. After lunch, we will return to the punt to cross over the river again and ride back to Williamstown. Ride should be approximately 30 km’s.

Altona to Seddon and return.

Meet at the Altona pier to leave at 10.00 am for one of our favourite rides. We will follow the BayWest trail through to Williamstown, Newport, and Yarraville and on to Seddon where we will stop for a late breakfast or early lunch. We will reverse our trip back to Altona for a 40 km return trip.

BUG dinner – Nara Thai Restaurant

Tonight we will dine at the Nara Thai Restaurant located at Shop2/6 Neville Avenue, Laverton @ 7.00 pm. This restaurant is fully licensed and BYO [wine only] for anyone interested in taking a bottle along.

Saturday 9 July.

Bike maintenance course

We will attend a bike maintenance course at Goldcross Cycles, 428 Old Geelong Road, Hoppers Crossing this morning starting at 10.30am to 12.00 noon.

The course will include the following:

- All of the parts of a bike.
- A general road/trail-worthy checklist.
- Some home maintenance including gears, brakes, cleaning and re-lubing.
- Offsite repairs which includes puncture repairs and essential tools.

This session will cover basic maintenance but we will plan a more advanced course in the future. Judging from recent experience, the information that will be provided will be of benefit to members. We do not need to bring our bikes along for this course.

Sunday 17 July.

Altona to Sanctuary Lakes and return

We will meet at the Altona pier to leave at 10.00 am. A train leaves Werribee at 9.26 am and Laverton at 9.34 am to arrive in time for the start. We will follow the path west along the BayWest Trail to the new bridge over Skelton Creek and cross over. Once over the bridge we will follow the road through Sanctuary Lakes to the café on the lake for coffee and a bite to eat. Once re-fuelled, we will return to cross over Skeleton Creek and back to Altona. This is short but pleasant ride at approximately 20 kms. We may extend the ride on the day if riders need a bit extra in the saddle.

Sunday 5 June.

Social ride – Yarraville to Moonee Ponds and return.

Today we meet in the park next to the Yarraville Railway Station, city side at 9.30 am. The 8.46 am train from Werribee, 8.56 am from Laverton or 9.02 am from Altona will arrive in time for the 9.30 am start. We will ride down Anderson Street and then follow the Hyde Street and Whitehall Street bike path to the start of the Maribyrnong bike path on to the Anglers Hotel on Raleigh Road Maribyrnong. Once there we have a short ride up Maribyrnong Road (about 300 metres) before a turn left into quiet residential streets. We ride up to Holmes Road and Puckle Street Moonee Ponds in time for a coffee and maybe cake. After a break, we continue down Puckle to Dean Street, past the racecourse until we meet the Moonee Ponds bike path. We will follow this path to North Melbourne and join up with the Capital City bike path. From here it is a short ride to Docklands for lunch. We can then ride back along Footscray Road bike path to starting point at Yarraville station. Approximate distance is 30 kms. There are several stations along the way to shorten your ride.

Social ride – Werribee River/Federation Trail

We will meet at the Werribee railway station, south side at 10.00 am. Catch the 9.38 train from Altona or 9.44 am from Laverton. We will follow the Werribee River trail to the start of Federation Trail. We follow the Federation Trail to Hoppers Crossing where we will turn around for the return journey. Once back in Werribee, we will find a café for a coffee and a bite to eat. Total trip should be about 20 kms.

BUG Dinner

Social ride- Altona to Williamstown and return

This morning we will meet at the Altona pier and leave at 10.00 am to ride to Williamstown via the Bay Trail. We will return via the trail to Altona pier, approximately 20 km. We can either have a coffee in Williamstown or when we arrive back at Altona, decision on the day.

Social ride – Active in Wyndham

Active in Wyndham “Bike Festival 2011″ is being held at Kelly Park, Synnot Street, Werribee. Starting at 11.00 am until 2.00 pm.
Come along and enjoy a non-competitive, accessible, and festive event for bicycle riders of every ability and riding style.
Bike Fest 2011 will showcase Wyndham’s bicycle culture and celebrate the best way to get around safely on a bike!

Social ride – Williamstown to Brighton and return.

Meet at the information centre, Commonwealth reserve, Nelson Place Williamstown to leave at 9.00 am. We will follow the path north to catch the Westgate punt to cross the Yarra River. Once on the other side, we will follow the path along the bay to Brighton where we will stop for coffee/lunch. By the time you reach Brighton you will ridden about 20 km’s. You can then choose to return the same way or catch a train back home.

Social Ride – Merlynston to Docklands

Today we will travel the Merri Creek trail from Merlynston. Catch a train from Werribee at 8.46 am, Laverton at 8.56 am and Altona at 9.02 am and travel to North Melbourne, due to arrive on platform 5 at 9.25 am. Change at North Melbourne to platform 2 for the 9.30 am train to Upfield. We will get off at Merlynton and travel a short distance along Queens Parade. The trail follows the Merri Creek south through Coburg and Brunswick to Ceres where we will stop for a coffee and maybe some lunch. The path continues to Rushall where it meets the Capital City Trail before joining the Yarra River. From here we will continue to Docklands for a train home. For anyone wanting a shorter ride, we have an option to catch a train at Rushall station or for a longer ride continue past Docklands home. Merlyston to Docklands will be approximately 40 km’s.

Altona to Seddon and return

We will meet at the Altona pier and leave at 9.15 am. The 8.45 am train from Werribee or 8.54 am train from Laverton will get you there in plenty of time. We will follow the BayWest trail through to Williamstown, Yarraville and on the Seddon where we will stop for a coffee and maybe a late breakfast at the Gourmet on Gamon. Seddon station is nearby for anyone who does not wish to ride the full 40 km return trip.

BUG dinner

Tonight we will dine at Gulati’s Restaurant at 23 Harrington Square, Maidstone Street, Altona, right opposite the Westona Railway station. This restaurant is Indian cuisine and comes highly recommended by local food critics, Carol, Jen and myself. They have a reasonable wine list, but you can also BYO wine if you wish. Our first ride for 2011 will be an easy flat ride for all those who have been eating too much and have not been on their bike for a while. We will meet at the Altona pier to leave at 9.15 am. A train leaves Werribee at 8.46 am and Laverton at 8.54 am to arrive in time for the start. We will follow the path west along the BayWest Trail to the new bridge over Skelton Creek and cross over. Once over the bridge we will follow the road through Sanctuary Lakes to the café on the lake for coffee and a bite to eat. Once re-fuelled, we will return via the “old” bridge crossing Skelton Creek near Lan Avenue, Altona Meadows to get back on the shared trail to Altona. This will be a reasonably short but pleasant ride at approximately 25 kms.
