Thursday 2 September – Annual General Meeting
The Annual General Meeting of the BayWest Bicycle User Group will be held on Thursday 2nd September 2010 at the Laverton Community Centre, Crown St, corner Railway Avenue @ 7.00 p.m.
All members are invited to attend to elect a committee for the upcoming year 2010/2011. It would be great to have some new faces on the committee with new ideas and energy. Please come along and have your say about the future of your BUG.
Sunday 12 September – Belinda’s Magical Mystery Tour
Due to no trains running once again between Footscray and Werribee this weekend we have had change our planned ride. Instead we will meet at 10.00 am at Salter’s Bike Shop 305 Queen Street, Altona Meadows [near Victoria Street] and we will ride to…………

Friday 17 September – BUG dinner
Tonight’s dinner will be at Crown of India, Shop 3, 102-104 Watton Street, Werribee at 7.00 pm. Melway Ref 205 H9. Sunday 26 September – Werribee to Newport.
Today we will meet on the south side of the Werribee station. A train leaves Newport 9.30, Altona 9.38 and Laverton 9.44 and is due to arrive for a 10.00 am departure. We will cross the road to the Werribee River trail and follow the river to the start of the Federation Trail. This will follow the Princes Freeway to Hoppers Lane and Hoppers Crossing station. Anyone wishing to finish the ride here has the option to return to Werribee by train. From Hoppers Crossing it is a straight run to Millers Road Brooklyn. Our ride to Newport will be on “on road” bike lanes from here. Lunch will be at a café in Newport close to Newport station for your return journey. Your ride today will be about 40 kms. Those in the Altona area can extend their ride from Newport.

Saturday 14 August – Seaholme station to Sanctuary Lakes and return.
NOTE – THIS IS A SATURDAY RIDE.
We will meet outside the train station at Seaholme. A train leaves Werribee at 9.26 am and Laverton at 9.36 am to arrive in time for a 10.00 am start. We will ride to Beach Street to the shared trail. Once on the path we will travel west and follow the BayWest trail to the new bridge over Skelton Creek and cross over to Sanctuary Lakes. Once over the bridge we will follow the road to the café on the lake for coffee and a bite to eat. Once re-fuelled, we will return via the “old” bridge crossing Skelton Creek near Lan Avenue, Altona Meadows to get back on the shared trail to Seaholme. This will be a reasonably short but pleasant ride at approximately 25 kms.

Sunday 29 August – Altona to Seddon & return.
NOTE – No trains are running between Footscray and Werribee.
This ride is one that keeps coming back, maybe because it’s one of the most popular. We will meet at the Altona pier to leave at 10.00 am. The 9.26 am train from Werribee or 9.36 am from Laverton will get you there in plenty of time. We will follow the BayWest trail through to Williamstown, Yarraville and on the Seddon where we will stop for our usual late breakfast or early lunch at the Gourmet on Gamon. Naturally we will make time for one of their great coffees. This will be a 40 km return trip.

Sunday 11 July – Altona to Anglers Tavern and back.
We will meet at the Pier in Altona and leave at 10.00 am and ride along the BayWest trail through to Williamstown and up to Footscray where we will cross Shepherd Bridge to ride along the east side of the Maribyrnong River. We cross back over the river near the Flemington Racecourse to continue along the west side to Anglers Tavern Hotel. We turn around here for the ride back to Altona. Oh, and naturally we will stop somewhere for a bite to eat and coffee. The total trip will be approximately 45 km’s.

Tonight we will dine at Touks Restaurant, 77 Charles Street, Seddon, opposite Victoria Street at 7.00 pm. The restaurant is licensed and has Mediterranean cuisine. Please RSVP as soon as possible so that we can make a booking, it appears to be a very popular place to eat.

Sunday 25 July. – Mitcham to Southern Cross station.
Today we catch the 8.46 am train from Werribee, 8.56 am from Laverton and the 9.02 am from Altona to Flinders Street, then change trains for Mitcham. This ride is superb, down hill all the way back to Burke Road Kew, and a bit of a hill near the Golf Club! We continue through to Richmond and onto the Collingwood Children’s Farm where we will stop for a coffee or maybe some lunch. After our stop we will continue to Southern Cross station for the trip home, or for those in need of some more exercise, we can ride all the way.

Sunday 20 June.
Social ride – Williamstown to Port Melbourne and return
Please note that the Maribyrnong River trail ride has been cancelled due to the closure of the trail between Brimbank Park and Canning Street Avondale Heights.
Instead we will meet at the Information centre, Commonwealth Reserve, Williamstown at 10.00 am and ride up to the Footscray Road trail and onto Melbourne, through Docklands and then follow the tram route down to Port Melbourne. We will stop opposite Station Pier for lunch and/or a coffee. We will return back to Williamstown the same way.

Sunday 2 May. – Social ride, Active in Wyndham
We have been invited to join “Active in Wyndham” in Werribee again this year. We will meet at Presidents Park in Werribee where we will lead two rides, one 9 km’s and another 22 km’s for the local residents within Wyndham. We encourage as many members to come along and join us for these rides.

Sunday 16 May. – Flinders Street station to Hawthorn & return.
Today we will meet at the Concourse, Flinders Street [Swanston Street side] at approximately 10.15 am and cross to Federation Square to ride along the Yarra River trail to Burnley where we cross the river via McRobertson Bridge. From here we will continue to follow the river until we come to the “Cafe on the River” for Morning Coffee. We then follow the river back to Flinders Street riding past the Rowing Sheds and under the bridge to Southbank to “Jeff’s Shed” where we sight the Polly Woodside. Then it’s over the new bridge next to the Mission to Seamen and onto Docklands for lunch. After lunch we ride to Footscray Station to catch a train home or ride if you wish.
Train leaves Werribee at 9:26am, Laverton at 9:36 am & Altona at 9:42 am, arriving Flinders Street at approximately at 10:13 am.

Sunday April 18
Social ride – Docklands to Williamstown and Altona.
Today we will meet at the ‘Cow in the Tree’ at Docklands at 9.30 a.m. We have invited other Bicycle User Groups in our area to join us to ride to Williamstown where we will gather in Commonwealth reserve and have morning tea. Your can bring your own or we can buy from one of many cafes in Nelson Place. Bring a picnic rug if you are able. We will ride back to Altona after our picnic in the park.

Sunday March 14.
Social ride – Werribee river loop.
Take the train to Hoppers Crossing station in time to leave at 9.15 am, the train is due to depart Altona station at 8.58. We will leave Hoppers Crossing and ride to the Werribee river and follow the path along the river to connect the start of the Federation Trail to ride back to Hoppers Crossing station for our return trip home. There will be some on road and you will need to walk your bike through some sections. Should be about 25 km’s.

Sunday March 28.
Social ride – Williamstown to Brighton.
Meet at the information centre, Commonwealth reserve, Nelson Place Williamstown to leave at 9.00 am. We will follow the path north to catch the Westgate punt to cross the Yarra River. Once on the other side, we will follow the path along the bay to Brighton where we will stop for coffee/lunch. By the time you reach Brighton you will ridden about 20 km’s. You can then choose to return the same way or catch a train back home.

Social ride – Altona to Sanctuary Lakes & return.
Meet at Altona pier to leave at 9.00 a.m. to follow the trail to Altona Meadows where we will cross over the new Skeleton Creek bridge to Sanctuary Lakes. We will then follow the road around the Golf course to the cafe on the lake for a coffee and maybe a bite to eat. Our return to back to Altona will be about 20 km’s.

Social ride – Hoppers Crossing to Newport.
Take a train to the Hoppers Crossing station in time to leave at 9.00 a.m. From here we will follow the Federation trail to Brooklyn and then on to Newport where we will stop for coffee and cake, about 30 km’s. You can either catch a train home from Newport or if you are feeling fit, ride.
