Saturday 1 & Sunday 2 October 2016. Social Rides – Weekend in Smythesdale.

On Saturday we plan to ride from Smythesdale to Ballarat on the Ballarat to Skipton Rail Trail for lunch by the lake. The return trip will be approximately 50km. Sundays ride may be a shorter 25km ride to Linton for lunch and return to Smythesdale. Both rides are still to be confirmed and are subject to change once discussed among those attending. Dinner on Saturday night will be at the Courthouse Hotel, Smythesdale.

Sunday 9 October 2016. Social ride – Altona Pier to Footscray.

We will meet at the Altona Pier @ 10.00am to ride along the shared trail to Williamstown and then head north along the Maribyrnong River to Footscray where we stop for brunch/lunch at the Happy River Café.  We reverse the ride back to the Altona Pier. The ride will be approximately 35kms.

Friday 14 October 2016. BayWest BUG dinner.

Our next dinner will be held at The Vault, 13 Ballarat St, Yarraville @ 7.00pm. This restaurant has come highly recommended so to attend please accept via Facebook, email or SMS.

Sunday 23 October 2016. Social Ride – Altona to Kensington.

Meet at the Altona Pier @ 10:00am for a new ride to Kensington. This ride follows the bay around towards the Maribyrnong River, and then follows the river crossing over at Newells Paddock just before the Princes Highway. We soon leave the shared trail and follow quiet roads to Kensington Station. We will have a number of coffee shops to consider here. The return to Altona will be approximately 48Kms with the option to return by train to Newport or Williamstown.

Sunday 6 November 2016. Social ride – Altona Pier to Port Melbourne.

Meet at the Altona Pier @ 9.30 am from where we ride via Maddox Rd to Spotswood to catch the Westgate Punt over to Port Melbourne for brunch (Cafe Grumento or Cafe Lafayette in Beach St are suggested options). We then ride back through Westgate Park to the punt and home. This ride will be approximately 30 km. Cost for the punt is $7 return. We welcome new riders but note visitors are required to have read and understood our Code of Conduct beforehand and to sign our insurance disclaimer form at our meeting point on the day. Sunday 27 November 2016. Newport to Brimbank Park.

Meet at Newport railway station @ 9.30am (on the east side). We will the ride along the trail to Footscray and on to the Maribyrnong trail. We will stop for a coffee at Anglers Tavern, and then ride up the switchback, past Canning Reserve and on to Brimbank Park and the Brownstone Cafe for lunch. Our return will be via the M80 and the Federation trail. There is some hills and gravel sections along this trail with approximately a 50 km round trip.

Sunday 11-September 2016. Social Ride – Altona Pier to Docklands Precinct.

Meet at the Altona Pier @ 10.00am from where we ride the Bay Trail to Docklands for lunch. After lunch we ride on to Port Melbourne to catch the punt to Spotswood for our ride back to Altona. Ride approximately 40km return.

Sunday 18 September 2016. Social Ride – Altona to Sanctuary Lakes.

Today we meet at the Altona Pier @ 10.00am where we begin our journey to Sanctuary Lakes via the Coastal Trail to Coast Cafe for lunch and then reverse our ride to return to the pier. Ride approximately 30km return.

Sunday 14 August 2016. Social ride – Hoppers Crossing to Werribee Mansion and return.

Today we will meet at the Hoppers Crossing station at 10.00am to ride to the Werribee Mansion following the Federation Trail to where it ends at the Werribee River. We will cross under the freeway to follow the path to the Werribee Mansion for lunch at the café. We will reverse the ride back to Hoppers Crossing station for a train home. Catch the 9.38am train from Altona. This ride will be approximately 25 kms.

Sunday 28 August 2016. Social Ride – Flinders Street to Fairfield.

Meet at Flinders Street Station Concourse @ 10.00am [9.02am train from Altona] from where we ride along the Yarra River before crossing over the bridge at Richmond to ride up to the Chandler Hwy. From here we ride mostly downhill to Fairfield for something to eat and drink. The return trip is expected to be approximately 35km.

5 June 2016. Social ride – Altona Pier to North Melbourne.

Meet at the Altona Pier at 10.00am from where we ride the Bay Trail through to Williamstown stop at the Anchorage for a quick coffee and then off to North Melbourne via the Footscray Road Trail for lunch at the French Quarter Patisserie in Queensbury Street. Some on-road riding on Arden Street in North Melbourne. Approximately 50 kms round trip.

19 June 2016. Social ride – Altona Pier to Spotswood.

Meet at Altona Pier @ 10.00 from where we ride the Bay Trail through to Williamstown and onto Spotswood. We turn off at Scienceworks and take the back streets to Hudson Road where we have brunch/lunch at one of the cafes. We reverse our ride back to Altona. Approximately 35 kms return.

15 May 2016. Social ride – Altona to Ascot Vale.

 

Meet at Altona Pier @ 10.00 am from where we follow the Hobsons Bay Trail until we turn up Maddox Rd and ride to Newport along Market St. From Newport we ride along Hall St, down Craig St to Spotswood and onto the Bay Trail again. We follow the Maribyrnong River trail through Yarraville, Footscray, and Maidstone. At Pipemakers Park we cross over the Maribyrnong River and ride the back streets to Union Road, Ascot Vale, where we stop at a café for lunch. Our return trip back to Altona will be approximately 42 km.

20 May 2016. BayWest BUG dinner – Stellas.

The next social event for 2016 will be held on Friday 20th May at 7pm at Stella’s,  http://www.stellapizza.com.au/. It is BYO wine and also licensed and not just pizza. Booking for 14 has been made but final numbers are required no later than Tuesday 17th May. Book via Facebook, SMS or email. Please also bring sufficient cash/change to pay for your meal as there are no split bills or cash/card combos. Prices are very reasonable and portion sizes are generous.

29 May 2016. Social ride – Heidelberg to Eltham.

Today we catch the 9.42am train from Altona for Parliament station to connect with the 10.27am train to Heidelberg. We the ride down Yarra Street to the Main Yarra Trail, or for those who need immediate coffee we can divert to one of the coffee shops on nearby Burgundy Street. From Heidelberg we cycle along the Yarra Trail, through the City of Banyule, following the river past wetlands and a picturesque view of Finns Reserve to Westerfolds Park. We follow the trail near the river through Westerfolds, crossing a newish bridge before heading to Eltham. There are two or three lunch spots in Eltham, or just north, to choose from, or alternatively for a longer ride, we can continue on the track to Diamond Creek, lunching there or returning to Eltham. Return home by train from Eltham or cycle back to Heidelberg. Distance from Heidelberg to Eltham is 15km (30km return). Extension to Diamond Creek is a further 12km return. The trail includes some modest hills. Some of the trail is not sealed; suitable tyres are a requirement.

8 April 2016. BUG dinner – Wild Rice Williamstown.

Our next BUG dinner will be at 7.00pm @ Wild Rice Thai Restuarant, 11 Ferguson Street, Williamstown. 10 April 2016. Social ride – Altona Pier to Seddon.

Meet at Altona Pier at 10.00am from where we will ride to Seddon along the Bay Trail via Williamstown and Yarraville. We will have brunch/lunch in Seddon before riding back to Altona. Approximately 40kms.

24 April 2016. Social ride – Altona to Kensington.

30 April – 1 May 2016. Social ride – Bellarine Peninsula weekend.

For our weekend on the peninsula we will base ourselves in Queenscliff from where we plan to ride to Geelong and back on Saturday along the Bellarine Rail Trail

https://www.railtrails.org.au/trail-descriptions/victoria/melbourne-metropolitan?view=trail&id=139 . This will be a 70km return trip but full details are still to be confirmed. Sunday we have options for shorter rides, possibly St Leonards to Portarlington or Queenscliff to Point Lonsdale. These will be decided on the day.

Sunday 6 March 2016. Social ride – Spotswood to Ceres.

This morning we will meet by the Westgate Punt, Spotswood at 9.00am to ride along the Bay Trail to connect with the trail along Footscray Road before changing to the Capitol City Trail and onto the Ceres Community Environment Park http://littleeats.com.au/melbourne/review/ceres-cafe/ for lunch. From Ceres we have the option of catching a train home from Rushall station or riding back to Spotswood.

Sunday 20 March 2016. Social ride – Altona to Essendon.

Meet at the Altona Pier at 9.30am from where we follow the bay to Williamstown and the Yarra River. Further north we find ourselves riding along the Maribyrnong River Trail to Maribyrnong Road where we can cross the river or continue another 3 Km’s to cross. Lunch is planned at the Boathouse Café in Essendon http://www.theboat-house.com.au/ from where we can enjoy the views over the river. We return back along the paths to Altona, however Moonee Ponds station is only 2 Km’s away for anyone not wishing to ride the full ride of approximately 60 Km’s.

Sunday 14 Feb 2016. Social ride – Flinders Street Station to Ashburton & return.

Today we will ride the Gardiners Creek trail, catch a train to Flinders Street station, 8.46am from Werribee, 8.56am from Laverton or 9.02am from Altona. The ride start time is 9.45am and we will follow the Yarra River to Ashburton passing the rowing sheds, Como Park and other Melbourne landmarks. After lunch at Ashburton, we return to Flinders Street following the north side of the Yarra River. We will catch a train home from here. Don’t forget to have a couple of circuit’s around the Velodrome along the way! Ride will be approximately 40kms.

Sunday 28 Feb 2016. Social ride – Altona Pier to Footscray & return. 

This morning we meet at the Altona Pier at 09.00am and ride along the bike path to Williamstown then head north along the Maribyrnong River to Footscray where we stop for brunch/lunch at the Happy River Café.  We head back home on the same path. Ride Approx: 35 kms.
